In 2003, AWCI along with BASF, Dryvit, ParexLahabra (including TEIFS) and Sto formed the AWCI Insurance Company, Ltd. to provide general liability coverage for wall and ceiling contractors having difficulty obtaining coverage for EIFS. This was at a time when many of the major insurance companies were concerned about EIFS and withdrew from the market. Since 2003, the AWCI Insurance Company issued more than 600 policies and through the combined efforts of AWCI and EIMA, educated the major insurance companies about EIFS as a product and it being an acceptable and predictable risk for insurers. During this time, AWCI provided (and will continue to do so) the EIFS-Doing It Right program. More than 6,000 EIFS mechanics, inspectors and other industry personnel participated in this program, and nearly 200 contractors earned the EIFSmart recognition

The Board of Directors for the AWCI Insurance Company Ltd. met to review the purpose and history of the insurance company. The Board agreed that we have achieved great success as there is now a healthy and competitive environment for EIFS insurance. Having achieved the mission, the Board voted to withdraw from issuing new policies by mid-October 2009. As part of the decision, the AWCI Insurance Company will be maintained for the next 10 years. Should there be another disruption in the insurance industry during that period; the board will reconsider the option to become an active insurer.

The AWCI Insurance Company, Ltd. program underwriter, Wells Fargo Insurance Services Southeast will continue to provide underwriting and administrative services to the program's current member insureds. Wells Fargo also has entered into an agreement with a replacement "A" rated insurance company that will provide general liability insurance including EIFS for current insureds and applicants that need assistance in finding insurance coverage.
